Hillsborough Stadium Sheffield. Home of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club who play all home games here.

Looking at the photograph above you are directly facing the North Stand which is accessible from either Leppings Lane or Penistone Road.

The shot is from a drone in Hillsborough Park directly opposite the football stadium. In this photo we are looking over the top of the South Stand towards the cantilevered North Stand.

The North Stand was a state of the art stand when first erected.

To the right is the fantastic Spion Kop on Penistone Road situated behind the goal.

Opposite this on the left hand side as we look at the photo is the West Stand on Leppings Lane.

From this shot from above we can see the fantastic green pitch of Hillsborough and the beautiful cantilever roof of the North Stand.

Sheffield Wednesday Hillsborough Stadium is one of the most famous football stadiums in the world.

But it’s not all been great. Hillsborough is sadly also notorious for the tragic Hillsborough disaster, one of the darkest days in football.

Any football fans visiting Hillsborough Stadium Sheffield for the first time will probably come away in awe of such a fantastic and majestic football stadium.

In the days of modern football this ground stands proud with it’s traditional clumsy layout that gives it such character and such grace. Whilst the stands may be mismatched that’s also the beauty of a real traditional football stadium.

So you can keep your soul-less Ikea style ‘bowls’. Keep them and give me Hillsborough any day of the week.

Hillsborough really is a beautiful stadium. It’s a ground that seems like you need to take a deep breath as you enter.

From the concourse you walk into the stands to see the magical green pitch and then the blue and white of the SWFC players ready to secure another win.

In conclusion it’s true to say that chairmen, managers and players come and go from Sheffield Wednesday.

Hillsborough Stadium Sheffield remains steadfast. Majestic. Beautiful.

It’s no wonder so many football fans love this fantastic football stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday White Away Shirt

Sheffield Wednesday White Away Shirt

This Sheffield Wednesday White Away Shirt is surely the most popular Sheffield Wednesday shirt of all time.

Take a look at this beauty. It’s fantastic.

It’s a bit of a collectors item too having only actually been worn during games once (or possibly twice) by the SWFC first team.

I have to say I really love this one. There’s something so instantly recognisable about it. It definitely stands out as one of the best if not the best ever Sheffield Wednesday away shirt designs.

With a striking white and blue design, this Bukta shirt also features a design down the arms and the owl badge on the chest.

Sometimes some replica shirts age badly but this one just seems to get better with every year that passes. Owls fans  love the simplicity of the design.

The shirt designer Bukta is also a really popular shirt manufacturer amongst the older generation of Wednesday fans, who seem to be hooked on their simple retro designs.

We agree. It’s a stunner.

It’s rarely been played in so this also adds to it’s charm amongst Wednesday fans, with many fans never having seen this shirt at all on the pitch.

It was way back in the 1981/82 season that Owls fans will have seen this one in action, and it’s been in demand ever since. A real collectors item if you can get your hands on an original.

This replica from Toffs is great though and pretty much identical to the real original shirt.

The Bukta Sheffield Wednesday White Away Shirt

Up close and personal this shirt has a glossy silky appearance very prevalent in the 1980’s and an elasticated cuff.

The branding down each arm gives an excellent and really striking look to the shirt. The Sheffield Wednesday badge on the left chest really finishes this classic away shirt off nicely. All in all a classic design and we love it.

The material is a shiny, silky effect that was most popular in the 1980’s. so you really do have a retro look and feel to this one.

So what do you think? Is this the best Sheffield Wednesday away shirt of all time? Let us know if the comments section below.

Sheffield Wednesday Shirts

We take a look at Sheffield Wednesday shirts from the football clubs history right up to present day.

There are just so many great kits that the football club have had over the years. There have also been bad kits, shirts, shorts and socks.

Questions about Sheffield Wednesday Shirts

For instance should Sheffield Wednesday shirts have a collar or not?

Should it have a central blue stripe or a central white stripe?

Should Sheffield Wednesday Shirts have stripes at all?

So we thought we’d set out to find which are the best of the Sheffield Wednesday shirts designs and find out what makes them great.

We also take a look at the worst Sheffield Wednesday replica shirt designs and wonder why the heck we bought them! Some designs were just plain ridiculous (thinking about some of the goalkeeper shirts that Kevin Pressman used to wear for example).

The obsession with the kits isn’t a new thing either. It’s long been a topic of discussion on forums such as Owlstalk where debate rages on about the stripes, the colour of the shorts, the colour of the socks and everything else kit related. It’s definitely a hot topic that’s for sure.

Back in the day the kit wasn’t even that important. Designs changed and nobody battered an eyelid. It’s only in recent years that the changes to design and colours have been a big discussion piece.

The price of the kits has also been something of a rising issue with many parents. Many parents have been complaining about the cost of kitting out their young Owls fans. That’s a topic for another day though, and for now we’ll concentrate on the kit designs of the club from past to present.

Everyone has their favourite kits but there must be one that is seen as the all time favourite. We set out to find that shirt and find out what makes it so popular amongst Owls fans.
